PREVIOUS STORY: Several teenagers are at Natividad with major, life threatening injuries following a crash in Santa Cruz.
CHP officers say on Sunday July 12th, a Nissan Altima was speeding west on Beach Street while approaching Clearwater Lane.
According to officers because of the level of the driver's intoxication, he failed to maintain control of the Nissan and exited the north road edge. The Nissan traveled into a ditch and hit a metal pole.
The car continued traveling in a northwesterly direction and became airborne as it exited the ditch. The Nissan collided with a wooden utility pole, overturned and landed on its wheels in an agricultural field.
The two rear passengers were unrestrained and were ejected from the Nissan. All 3 passengers of the car were transported to Natividad with major, life threatening injuries. Those taken to the hospital include a 17-year-old female from Watsonville, an 18-year-old male from Salinas, and a 16-year-old female from Watsonville.
The 17-year-old male driver from Salinas was also transported to Natividad Hospital and was placed under arrest for DUI. The driver was then transported to Santa Cruz County Juvenile Hall. The collision is still under investigation.
