Ashes of murdered Santa Cruz girl apparently stolen from car

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION) The ashes of Maddy Middleton were apparently stolen out of a car Thursday night, according to a family member.

The family member confirms with KION that they believe someone took the urn containing her remains. They searched the neighborhood to see if the green ceramic container was left somewhere, but did not find it.

The family asks that if anyone finds it, please return it. There will be no questions asked.

Maddy, and 8-year-old Santa Cruz resident, was murdered in July 2015.
