PREVIOUS STORY: Two people are facing attempted murder charges in connection to a home break in and shooting.
On Tuesday, Salinas police officers responded to a report of shots fired at an apartment complex in the 300 block of Casentini Street. When they got there, officers said the front door to an apartment was kicked open.
Officers went inside and said the apartment was empty, but they said they found nine 9mm bullet casings on the patio.
When officers searched the area, they said they found two victims who were not injured. One of them, a 22-year-old man, said he and his friend were in the apartment when someone knocked on the door. He said he looked out the window and saw a man in all black wearing a black mask. He told them he decided not to open the door, but shortly after, he heard someone kicking the door.
The man said he and his friend ran to the patio, jumped the fence and ran. They heard several gunshots as they were running, but neither of them were hit.
Officers searched the area and found a security camera nearby. They said it showed a potential suspect vehicle, a silver 2017 Dodge Charger, entering the apartment complex. After that, two males could be seen running and getting into the vehicle after putting what appeared to be bags in the vehicle. Police said one of the males matched the victim's description.
The next day, detectives followed up on the investigation and got a search warrant for the suspect's home in the 1700 block of Humboldt Drive. The Violence Suppression Task Force and detectives began watching the suspects while they were getting the search warrant and waiting for the SWAT team and air support from the CHP.
Police said one of the suspects came out of the home and toward the suspect vehicle while holding his waistband as the SWAT Team pulled up.
The SWAT team surrounded the home and arrested 18-year-old Jose Amezcua and a 16-year-old.
While serving the search warrant, detectives said they found a hidden and loaded .40 caliber handgun and a 9mm semi-automatic handgun. Detectives said there was also evidence that they were involved in a drug and gang related robbery.
Amezcua was booked into the Monterey County Jail and charged with attempted murder, robbery, conspiracy and gang-related charges.
The juvenile was placed in Juvenile Hall on the same charges.
