Video shows bobcat on Valencia School Road
APTOS, Calif. (KION) A video shared with KION shows a bobcat walking down Valencia School Road near Aptos.
According to the man who took the video, Tobias Aguirre, it is the closest he has gotten to a bobcat.
"I was driving by and stopped. The cat was actually totally cool with it, just not at all scared or to wary of me. I was surprised a bit by how comfortable and close it actually came," Aguirre said.
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife said bobcats can be found throughout most of California, and they usually stay in areas with chaparral vegetation types and near low and mid-elevation conifer, oak, riparian and pinyon-juniper woods and forests.
The Department of Fish and wildlife said bobcats are usually wary around humans and are not considered a significant threat to safety, but there could be a risk to unprotected pets and livestock.
To prevent problems, the Department of Fish and Wildlife said not to feed them, remove potential food sources on property and keep pets and livestock secure.
