North Davis Road remains frequent spot for speed related accidents
SALINAS, Calif. (KION) Each of the last two years, there have been six reported accidents on N. Davis Rd. near Auto Center Circle.
In the area, there are marked areas telling drivers to slow down including a speed radar and speed bumps. However, according to Salinas Police it is one of the most common places for accidents in the city.
The latest accident in that area was last Saturday, when a 15-year-old was killed in an accident where the driver was speeding.
“Many motorists have a difficulty navigating this curve,” Miguel Cabrera with the Salinas Police Department said.“The primary collision factor which stands out in all of these is speed.”
Police said crashes are common in this area because a long stretch of straight road turns into a quick turn. It's something drivers who frequent the area are well aware of.
“Every time I go there I see new scars and bumps on the railing, and there's another person that took the turn too fast,” Sergio Mancilla said.
Of the 13 reported accidents in the area since 2018, police said at least seven are speed related and two are from DUI.
