The CHP identifies three people killed in Gilroy accident Tuesday

GILROY, Calif., (KION-TV) — The California Highway Patrol (CHP) Hollister-Gilroy is still investigating a deadly crash on Tuesday night slightly before 7 p.m. in Gilroy.

Three people were killed, according to Hollister-Gilroy. These three people have been identified as 18-year-old Brandon Alarcon, 17-year-old Victor Lujan and 17-year-old Anzhel Villegas-Lemus.

They said that the driver of one of the vehicles lost control while traveling west on Shore Road west of Lake Road, crossing into opposing traffic and striking a different vehicle traveling east on Shore Road.

It was the driver of the westbound car and two rear-seat passengers who died from the accident, according to CHP.

According to the release, at least three vehicles were involved, of which the other passengers in the other vehicles were transported by helicopter to an area hospital with suspected serious injuries. Area personnel are handling the investigation.

Esther Lujan, the great-grandmother of victim Victor Lujan, remembered her great-grandson while visiting the crash site.

"Tomorrow is his birthday. He was gonna be 18, turn 18," Esther Lujan said. "Very shocked, very shocked... just couldn't believe it when the officer say he didn't make it...just so hard because I remember his smile. I remember things he would do."

The San Benito High School District addressed the Hollister High School community Wednesday, saying, "Our thoughts and condolences go out to the families, friends and loved ones of these young individuals. We know that this news will have a significant impact on our students, staff and the broader community."

Officials from Hollister High received word about last night's crash, but did not know the names of the victims until Wednesday. Hollister High School principal Kevin Medeiros gave he thoughts on the passing of the victims.

"I did know the students and its tragic. These are my kids here..." Meideros said. "I love all the kids that go to this school so hearing the news and something this devastating was really hard."

"We are very close knit family here in Hollister in term of the high school and district," Tennenbaum said. "We have many generations of family members that went to school here. We knew we would have to wrap our arms around our entire community.

The school is offering counseling and mental health services to those students seeking support throughout the rest of the week. Officials say that students are comfortable coming in to seek help and asking how to cope with this tragic time.

"Kids come to school because it's a part of their live and a part of their family and it really does help coming here, especially during these hard times," Medeiros said.
