More dog attacks reported in Seaside
SEASIDE, Calif. (KION-TV 2019) At least three pet owners said their dogs have been victims of similar attacks all on Thursday within a few hours.
A dog owners worst nightmare became reality Thursday, when a Seaside couple’s dog was brutally attacked by two other dogs. They describe the attacking dogs as aggressive, large German Shepard Husky mixes. There were no owners with the attacking dogs, but they didn’t appear to be strays.
“I saw them go towards him, and sniff him, and then they started thrashing him no hesitation,” David Woodman who’s dog was killed in the attack said.
Their puppy Jasper died from the injuries, and their other dog was hurt too. Now several other pet owners in Seaside are saying the same two dogs have attacked theirs. All of the incidents are near Military Ave. and General Jim Moore Blvd.
“Kind of just trotted up. There was no barking no growling they just started tearing my dog up,” Seaside resident Hanif Panni said.
Panni’s wife was walking their dog when the attack happened. He took their dog to the pet hospital, and turns out only a half hour after their incident another owner's dog was also attacked in the same area.
In these cases it's likely nothing could have stopped the ravenous dogs, but the SPCA for Monterey County said throwing water on the attacker or carrying a pet corrector can be helpful.
“It’s just pressurized air to spray at the dog to kind of startle them giving you enough time to go into the street or back into a fenced area,“ Darlenne Guerra with the SPCA said. “Keeping an eye on their tale. Keeping an eye on their stance. Keeping an eye on their face.”
What’s so chilling is the victims in these attacks say the dogs, who have been spotted in this same area before, showed no real aggressive signs until it was too late.
“It’s a public safety menace, and the fact it happened in such a concentrated area and time. I don’t want to not feel safe walking around my own neighborhood you know?” Panni said.
“There’s this huge void now that Jasper’s not with us. It’s been very difficult for us and we want to make sure that this doesn’t happen to another family,” Ena Rosa said.
KION has reached out Seaside Police, but have not gotten a response as of Saturday night. However, both families we’ve spoken to have reported the cases to police.
