Apartment fire kills two children, father who tried saving them
HEMET, Calif. (AP) - Two girls and their father have died and a boy was badly injured in a Southern California apartment fire.
The fire erupted early Friday morning in a second-floor unit occupied by seven people in the city of Hemet, about 75 miles southeast of Los Angeles.
Police say the dead include 4- and 12-year-old girls and their 41-year-old father, who returned to the apartment to attempt a rescue.
An 8-year-old boy was rescued and taken to a medical center in grave condition. Identities of the victims have not been released.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
