Shots fired near “Boardwalk area” Tuesday

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION)- No arrests have been made following a shooting near the Santa Cruz Boardwalk.

On Tuesday around 9 p.m., Santa Cruz Police Department officers were dispatched to the area of Third St. at Kaye St. for a call of “shots heard.”

When officers arrived on scene, they found evidence of a shooting in the 100 block of Kaye St. and contacted several witnesses who confirmed the shooting.

During the course of the investigation, officers discovered a victim of a gunshot wound who was treated for non-life threatening injuries at Dominican Hospital. Other victims were in the line of fire at the time of the shooting but were uninjured.

SCPD Detectives were called out to the scene and worked the case into the morning hours interviewing witnesses, victims, processing the crime scene, and reviewing video surveillance. Initial investigative developments show this was a targeted act of violence. Detectives will continue to follow up on all investigative leads. No arrests have been made.
