Police investigating death of Salinas man as homicide
SALINAS, Calif. (KION) Salinas police are investigating the death of a man who died from complications after a believed assault.
Police said 58-year-old Robert Darryl Mooring was assaulted near E. Lake Street and Soledad Street on Oct. 29. He was injured, but did not get immediate treatment.
On Nov. 1, police said a social worker brought Mooring to the Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital emergency room after becoming concerned about his condition. At the hospital, Mooring said he was punched in the face, but would not give any more information.
Mooring was admitted to the hospital, and police said an infection and complications from the assault led to his death.
A member of Mooring's family tells KION that he lives in Los Banos and was visiting Salinas at the time.
Police are investigating Mooring's death as a homicide and are asking the public for information. They are asking to speak to anyone who was in the area of Market Way and Soledad Street between Oct. 27 and 31, friends or associates, anyone with video and anyone who might have seen a fight or suspicious activity.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Gabriela Contreras at 831-758-7971 or gabriega@ci.salinas.ca.us.
