Update on Highway 101 construction in Salinas

The construction on Highway 101 has been underway since earlier this year, and the current stretch–from Market Street to Sherwood Drive–is nearly halfway done, according to Caltrans.

The work is expected to be completed in its entirety by the summer of 2021. But all the work is being done at night, so the status of the project isn’t necessarily obvious to the public.

“The project has been very challenging, as anticipated, because it’s a main artery,” Susana Cruz, Caltrans public information officer said.

This means that late-night drivers can expect some ramps to be closed at times. But not during the day, as all the work is being done overnight.
