Salinas man found guilty of slapping wife’s face causing injury
A Salinas man was found guilty of assaulting his wife during a domestic violence incident.
In April, police investigated the incident that involved 33-year-old Christen Jermaine Alfaro. His wife’s face was injured, so during the investigation, an officer took photos and used his body camera to interview her. During the interview, the woman said Alfaro slapped her across the face after accusing her of being unfaithful.
After the trial started, Alfao’s wife recanted and told jurors she had lied about the injury. After that, jurors saw the body cam video showing the interview on the day of the assault. A domestic violence expert also explained why a victim might take back what she said to protect her abuser.
Alfaro was sentenced to 60 days behind bars and three years on probation. He will also have to perform community service, spend 52 weeks in Batter’s Treatment classes and not own guns for ten years. His wife was also given a criminal protective order.
