Charter bus hit by projectile on Highway 101

The California Highway Patrol confirms to KION that a charter bus was hit by a projectile while heading south on Highway 101 Monday evening.

It happened at around 5:19 p.m. near the Red Barn. There were no injuries, and the CHP has not said what the projectile was.

It is not clear yet if this incident is connected to past incidents of projectiles hitting vehicles. If it is connected, it would bring the number of incidents up to 25 since January of last year. That would not include the two cars struck by bullets Saturday.

“It’s scary. I’m even scared to drive on that part of the road coming back from Salinas,” Prunedale resident Bella Maddox said.

Central coast resident are asking how long with this continue.

“It’s been going on for how long, how many people and it was done again yesterday. I mean, this is it we’re going to get you. We’ll find you,” Silvia Hall said.

The CHP has stepped up its patrol in the area. We asked if they’ve set up surveillance, but they could not reveal that in their investigation.

The attacks have occurred throughout a few mile radius. They have been as far north as Red Barn and other cars have been struck as far south a Berta Canyon Road.
