CHP: 24 vehicles struck by ‘projectiles’ on Highway 101 near Prunedale since last year
It’s an unusual crime that has been reoccurring for more than a year. The California Highway Patrol has 24 reports of projectiles hitting cars driving on Highway 101 in areas around Crazy Horse Canyon and San Miguel Canyon Road.
CHP has identified the “projectile” that has been slamming into cars at a high velocity, but to avoid copycats are not revealing that information. However, all 24 cases are believed to involve the same type of object.
CHP is deploying more officers to that area.
“You should feel safe when traveling on these freeways. You should feel safe when traveling on 101, so we are doing what we can with putting our resources out there and [solving] this problem,” CHP officer Jessica Madueno said.
Fast forward to Saturday, when two cars were struck by bullets around 7 a.m. near San Miguel Canyon road. The CHP says the bullet holes are different from the other 24 cases, and right now do not believe it is connected.
“This incident we do not feel is related to the projectiles on 101 however we’re not closing that off,” Madueno said.
No one has been arrested.
In all, two people have gone to the hospital with cuts from shattered glass. Amazingly, no one has been seriously injured.
