Fireworks sales begin in Salinas
The sale of “safe and sane” fireworks begins Friday in Salinas.
Eighteen local nonprofit groups were chosen by lottery to legally sell fireworks, beginning June 28 and ending no later than June 5.
According to TNT Fireworks, legal fireworks are being sold at booths or stands in Salinas, Seaside, Marina, Soledad, Gonzales, Greenfield, and Hollister. Locations are posted on the company’s website.
Rules regarding fireworks vary by city.
Santa Cruz has banned all fireworks within city limits.
Safe and Sane fireworks are allowed in Watsonville. Police say plainclothes police officers will patrol neighborhoods to enforce bans on illegal fireworks.
In Seaside, legal fireworks are permitted from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. until July 4th, when the deadline is extended until midnight.
The city of Salinas offered these safety tips:
–Buy and use only “Safe and Sane” fireworks
–Always read and follow instructions on fireworks packaging
–Closely supervise children during the use of “Safe and Sane” fireworks
–Never use fireworks around dry vegetation or areas likely to catch fire
–After firework has been used, soak in water before discarding.
–Always keep at a safe distance
–Always have a garden hose and a bucket of water on hand when using fireworks.
