Gonzales man killed in crash on Highway 101 Wednesday morning

A 31-year-old Gonzales man died after a crash on Highway 101 near Potter Road.

He was driving a black BMW with a 25-year-old female passenger Wednesday morning southbound on Highway 101. The CHP says that for unknown reasons, he lost control of the vehicle north of Potter Road.

The car veered into the northbound lanes of Highway 101 and hit a Jeep Cherokee. The Jeep lost control, hit traffic signs and came to a stop in a southbound lane of the highway, blocking one lane. The driver of the Jeep had minor injuries and was treated at Natividad Medical Center, and the passenger was not injured.

The BMW continued out of control in the northbound lanes until it hit an iron fence in front of Big W Sales on the corner of Highway 101 and Rosehart Way and landed on its roof. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and his passenger was taken to Natividad Medical Center with minor injuries.

The CHP does not believe that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

All lanes of Highway 101 are open, and the southbound lane is no longer blocked.
