Central Coast events to mark Memorial Day
Several Memorial Day ceremonies and events are scheduled around the Central Coast today:
Monterey
The U.S Coast Guard will hold a memorial ceremony and wreath toss in honor of service members who died in the past year.
The event starts at 10:30 a.m. at the Coast Guard pier in Monterey.
The public is invited to bring their own wreaths to remember a loved one.
Wreaths should not contain any plastic or metal.
The City of Monterey will present a Memorial Day Pops Concert on the City Hall lawn.
The Monterey County Pops orchestra and youth soloists will perform popular and patriotic songs.
The Concert on the Lawn is free, and runs from 1-4 p.m..
Santa Cruz
Community leaders, veterans and current service members will speak at a remembrance ceremony at Evergreen Cemetery.
It starts at 11 a.m. and will include both spoken and musical tributes.
There will also be a pop-up museum. The public is encouraged to bring memorabilia to honor a loved one who served or is currently serving in the military.
Soledad
American Legion Post 32 will conduct a full military ceremony honoring their local fallen, starting at 10:00 a.m. at the Soledad Cemetery, 1711 Metz Road.
Soledad High School’s NJROTC color guard will present the flag and perform a drill ceremony.
Congressman Jimmy Panetta is the keynote speaker.
