Parolee found with loaded gun near school in Monterey County

A parolee was arrested for carrying a loaded gun near a school in Monterey County.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a suspicious person near a south county school on Tuesday. Deputies found Richard Garcia in possession of a loaded semi-automatic pistol.

“He was also found to be recently paroled from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, where he was convicted for assault with an automatic weapon,” the sheriff’s office said in a written statement.

Garcia was booked into the Monterey County Jail for being a convicted felon of a violent crime in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm, and violation of his parole.
