Salinas police pursuit ensues after victims spot stolen car, call 911

Victims of a car theft spotted their stolen vehicle on a street in Salinas and called police.

The car was reported stolen on Saturday in the 800 block of Abbott Street.

On Sunday, around 10:30 p.m. the victims saw a man driving their car and called 911.

Officers located the stolen car in the area of James and Smith Street and attempted to stop it.

“The vehicle began evading police and after a short pursuit, a PIT maneuver was conducted in the 700 block of E Alisal St,” Salinas police said in a written statement.

The driver, Jesus Tejeda, 31, was taken into custody.

A loaded short barrel .22-caliber rifle and other stolen property was found inside the car.

Tejada was booked at the Monterey County Jail for possession of a stolen vehicle, evading police and multiple firearm violations.
