Woman arrested for breaking door of a gas station with a baseball bat

A woman is behind bars in Salinas for breaking the glass door of an Exxon Gas station. Officers say she claimed she was hungry and the business should have been open.

Salinas Police responded to the call of a woman breaking down the door with a baseball bat just after 5 a.m. Wednesday, and at the same time another call came in about a person brandishing a baseball bat at a Domino’s employee demanding soda.

Officers stopped 35-year-old Cynthia Alvarez and a 20-year-old man who matched the description given, and Alvarez still had a bat with her.

She was taken into custody and said the business should have been open because she was hungry. Alvarez was booked into the Monterey County Jail and charged with vandalism and attempted robbery.

The man was released at the scene.
