CHP Riverside officer hit and killed by “reckless” driver Saturday

A CHP motorcycle officer in Riverside county has died after being hit on I-15 Saturday afternoon.

He’s identified as Sergeant Steve Lincon. He was on the shoulder of the highway outside Lake Elsinore when witnesses say a person was driving recklessly and hit his motorcycle, and he appeared to be pinned between two cars.

Sergeant Lincon was air lifted to the hospital where he died. He leaves behind a wife, daughter and step-daughter.

The California Highway Patrol wrote on social media, “(He) made the ultimate sacrifice today while serving his community. Rest easy brother, we have the watch from here.”

Acting Governor Kounalakis has ordered Capitol flags be flown at half-staff.

There will be a bell toll tribute ceremony in his honor Monday at the CHP Academy in Sacramento.
