Pacific Grove celebrates 62nd Good Old Days
Spring has sprung on the Central Coast and Good Old Days is back. Saturday and Sunday is Pacific Grove’s 62nd annual celebration.
“People have this perception that Pacific Grove is kind of a quiet, sleepy town, but Good Old Days really pops the lid off,” said Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce Marketing and Events Manager, Peter Mounteer.
This year visitors can expect more music, food, art, and fun, all in the heart of Downtown Pacific Grove.
The idea started back in 1957 when a group of friends planned a small gathering in the parking lot of a downtown business. Nearly seven decades later, organizers said their idea has taken off. “Over the last 20 or so years it’s just gotten bigger, and bigger, and bigger. It’s been probably at its current size for the last 10 or 15 years. We’re probably about as big as it’s gonna get,” said Mounteer.
The weekend-long event stretches a total of ten blocks. It’s there that visitors can find a variety of local talent, all of who volunteer their time. “We don’t pay for music at all. That’s something I always like to say, because it really under-sources the community spirit of this event,” said Mounteer.
The bands aren’t the only ones helping out. Over 40 local volunteers have been hard at work since December. Organizers said there is a little something for everyone at Good Old Days, no matter the age. “C ome check it out. Take a chance. You won’t be disappointed,” said Mounteer.
