Abandoned building on fire in Marina

UPDATE: Central Coast fire agencies responded to reports of a structure fire off of Walker Street on Thursday night.

When they arrived, they discovered the building was abandoned for years but had evidence someone was living inside the building.

Marina’s Fire Division Chief says whoever was in the building or had started the fire was not around when crews got to the scene.

Firefighters on scene say they decided to allow the building to burn down because it was a building which was vacated for so long that it would be dangerous for crews to enter and try and put out the fire.

Crews believe the fire was started because of a warming fire as it’s common for that area to have those type of fires, especially late at night.

As of 7 a.m. Friday morning, the fire just about out with white smoke filling the air above it.
