Group pushes for a “new” California, 51st state
A group pushing to split California in two rallied across the state today including on the Central Coast.
They call themselves “The new California State Movement” and want to become the 51st state.
The group is pushing for education changes and is against illegal immigration.
58 counties in the state have independent representatives.
KION spoke with one of the representatives for Monterey County who lives in Salinas. They held a small rally at the Salinas courthouse.
Ana Solaiz told KION she would also like to get rid of mandatory vaccines.
“We have many grievances against the State of California, but my main mission is to overturn vaccine mandates in California,” said Ana Solaiz, Independent Representative of Monterey County.
Leaders say although the idea is far from a reality, the group has already assigned two assembly members and a senator in each county where someone has shown support for the idea.
According to the group, “New California is a new state in development exercising it’s Constitutional Right to form from the State of California. The process to form New California is authorized and codified in Article IV Sections 3 & 4 of the United States Constitution.”
