Snow hits Central Coast Mountains

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory as snow is expected to hit central coast mountains.

Snow accumulations could be seen in the Santa Lucia Mountains above Big Sur and Southern Gabilan Range Monday afternoon through Tuesday afternoon. The National Weather Service estimates 4 to 8 inches of snow at the higher elevations and locally 10 to 15 inches above 4000ft.

NWS also estimates the Santa Cruz Mountains will get 2 to 4 inches of snow at higher elevations. Snow mixed with rain is expected around 400 to 1000 feet Monday afternoon.

Officials are warning drivers of potential hazardous conditions along Highway 35, Highway 9, Highway 17, Highway 29 and other mountain roads and passes.
