Car drives into ACE Hardware store in Pacific Grove
An investigation is underway after a car plowed into an ACE Hardware store doing extensive damage.
“Nobody was in the store,” said Bill Derowski, the store owner. “Three minutes earlier, it would’ve been a catastrophe. Closed at six and shortly after that, she hit the door, but my guys were out of the building.”
The accident happened on the 200 block of Forest Ave in Pacific Grove. Police say two cars were involved in the crash, before one ended up in the store.
Police say no one was injured in the accident or resulting from the accident.
“Well, my understanding is she rolled through the stop sign. She didn’t notice there was a stop sign here,” said Derowski. “A truck hit her, she spun and of course (she was ) disoriented, went right into (the store). In fact, I talked to her, she’s OK.”
The owner says the store will be closed for the next few days as about a quarter of the merchandise was damaged in the crash.
“I’d say maybe five or ten thousand dollars in merchandise and fixtures,” said Derowski.
Police do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved and at this point, no charges are being filed.
