Rio Del Mar: Woman rams patrol car, crashes with unrestrained child in car
A San Jose woman was arrested for allegedly ramming her car into a patrol car in Santa Cruz County.
A State Park ranger said 35-year-old Shelley Vickers was driving erratically near the Rio Del Mar Esplanade around 7 p.m. Thursday.
As the ranger approached Vickers’ car she reportedly reversed into the patrol car.
A Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s deputy was driving in the area and saw what happened.
“Vickers did not pull over when deputies turned on their lights and sirens,” said Sgt. Dee Baldwin.
Vickers led deputies on a short pursuit which ended when she crashed into a fence in the 300 block of Rio Del Mar Boulevard.
Deputies discovered Vickers had been driving with her child in the car. The child was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash but was unharmed.
Sgt. Baldwin said Vickers tried kicking and biting deputies during her arrest.
Vickers was arrested and booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail. Her bail has been set at $15,000.
