Former Monterey County Sheriff’s candidate cleared in state investigation

Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputy and Salinas City Councilman Scott Davis has been cleared of any wrongdoing by two state agencies.

Davis, a former candidate for sheriff, was accused during the race of embezzling money by former members of the Deputy Sheriff’s Association.

In a letter dated, October 2, the Fair Political Practices Commission said it was closing the case without further action. It also said a separate review done by the Attorney General’s office was also being closed without further action.

Davis denied the accusations. He lost the race to current Sheriff Steve Bernal in June.
