“Airbag recall repair month” especially important for California drivers
California has the second highest number of auto accidents across the U.S.
There are more than 1.7 million defective Takata airbags in vehicles in our state. There have already been 15 deaths in the United States from these defective airbags.
In response, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram dealerships in California are holding an “Airbag Recall Repair Month” throughout October.
“In some cases it might be the third owner of that vehicle so we don’t have their info on our databases so that’s why we’re trying to look at different ways to get this message out there,” Manager of Services for Fiat Chrysler Automotive’s Frank Lasater said.
The issue is, many drivers aren’t aware that their car falls under the category.
“Maybe they’ve changed addresses haven’t gotten the mailer,” Mechanic Thomas Willing-Mayer said.
The Takata recall mostly involves vehicles made between 2002 and 2015.
“Don’t wait any longer. The danger increases overtime so the more heat and humidity overtime that is effecting these airbags the greater you’re at risk,” Lasater said.
October is the most dangerous month for auto accidents in the U.S.
