Project revitalizes a Santa Cruz elementary school

What started Saturday as debris and old buildings at Del Mar Elementary School in Santa Cruz, turned into a finished garden with benches and picnic tables.

The projects was organized by the Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz County and Kaiser Permanente. “It’s where students are going to be able to learn about math and science, and collaboration, and food systems,” said Mariah Tanner, the Director of Development at the Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz County.

Tanner tells KION this includes a new Greenhouse and classroom.

Aside from students, volunteers included skilled people with construction backgrounds.
