Phone scammer targets Greenfield residents

Officials are warning Greenfield residents of a phone scam where the caller is claiming to be a city employee.

The victim told Greenfield police that the caller tried to set up an appointment to come to their home to test lead levels in the water.

On Friday, the Greenfield Police Department issued a public safety announcement stating that Public Works is not testing the water for lead and that the person calling is not a city employee.

“Please do not set up an appointment with this individual. Remember to always ask for identification should a person come to your residence claiming to be a employee of the City or any other government entity,” said Greenfield police.

KION’s Megan Meier will have more on how to protect yourself from phone scams at 5 and 6 p.m.
