Hand grenade found at Santa Cruz County landfill

An explosive device was found at a landfill in Santa Cruz County.

According to county officials, the old hand grenade was discovered at the Buena Vista Landfill on Monday.

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office responded and safely removed the device.

The County of Santa Cruz posted to Facebook saying, “We’ll take bottles, glass and pieces of brass, magazines, cardboard, saved from the trash, used motor oil and video screens, weeds and tree trimmings that once were green, sheetrock, tires and moldy old carpet, AV components and telephone equipment, but one thing the landfill can’t take, we’re afraid is your grandfather’s old hand grenade.”
