Ciclova Salinas needs adult volunteers to help with directing traffic during event
A stretch of East Alisal Street will once again be put on hold for drivers and be given a green light for those using alternate forms of travel.
It’s Ciclovía Salinas and much of the organizing for this event is done by high schoolers.
Making this particular Ciclovía one of, if not the only one, handled primarily by student leaders.
“We’ve never been to Ciclovía before so this will be our first year so my family is pretty excited,” says one of the student organizers, Juana Alvarez.
Juana is one of at least 80 volunteers who are on-board so far to make this event possible.
There’s plenty to expect from this year’s activities.
“Free vaccines and helmets and all these other amazing things,” says Hazel Batara.
Hazel heard about this program thanks to another volunteer, Gabriel. He got involved thanks to his brother.
Once Gabriel’s parents found the youth-based volunteer aspect of Ciclovía Salinas makes a huge impact on the kids.
“When I said I wanted to get involved, too, they said ‘oh great now we can drive one less person,” says Gabriel Perez.
Ciclovía Salinas stretches from Main and East Alisal Street all the way to Sanborn Road. Traffic in that area will be diverted as the event goes on.
Ciclovía Salinas takes place on Sunday October 7 from 9 am to 1 pm.
If you’re an adult who would like to volunteer diverting traffic (the youth organizers aren’t allowed to) you can email cicloviasalinasvolunteers@gmail.com to sign up or visit the website at cicloviasalinas.org
