Crews battle fire near Hwy 1 in Watsonville
Firefighters are battling a vegetation fire near Highway 1 in Watsonville.
Officials said the fire is next to the southbound lane of Highway 1 between Riverside and Green Valley Road. It was initially reported around 2:20 p.m. Monday.
Cal Fire CZU reported the fire was causing “smoke impacts” to the highway.
According to the California Highway Patrol, one southbound lane is open while crews work to extinguish the flames. CHP expects to reopen the lanes within an hour.
