5th Annual ‘Monterey Beach Sports Fest’ brings hundreds of athletes to The Peninsula

The 5th annual ‘Monterey Beach Sports Fest’ brought hundreds of competitors to the Peninsula, on Saturday and Sunday.

Athletes of all ages came to Del Monte Beach to compete in events like swimming, canoeing, sprinting, and tire-flipping.

The event took the theme of ‘Healthy People, Healthy Oceans,’ and recognized non-profit groups that advocate for maintaining clean beaches that everyone can enjoy.

Competitor, Jerry Clarsfeld, competed in a swim relay, on Saturday. He said staying fit and healthy is important to him. “When you come in from the water you’re just so glad that you’ve done it, and you just have an adrenaline, and you feel so good, and you’re just so happy to be here on a beautiful day,” said Clarsfeld.

Clarsfeld was the oldest athlete in his divison. At 70 years old, he said he finds happiness in staying active.
