Two burglars captured in Santa Cruz

Santa Cruz Police arrested two burglars in two separate incident Monday night.

According to police, the first happened around 7:00 p.m. on September 18th at a home on the 500 block of Market Street.

Police said a driver noticed a suspicious man standing by a window outside of the home and then saw the man had a large screwdriver in one hand next to a broken window. The driver yelled at the man “What are you doing?” The homeowner then noticed the window and a man trying to get in through the broken window.

When the homeowner ran outside, the burglar threatened the homeowner as he tried to get away. Police quickly spotted the suspect and arrested him near North Branciforte Avenue. The suspect has been identified as 42-year-old transient Alejandro Rodriguez.

Santa Cruz Police said two hours later around 9:10 p.m., officers then got reports of someone trying to break into a commercial building on Ocean Street.

Police quickly responded and caught the suspect identified as 27-year-old transient, Alexander Torres.

Officers then discovered through a probation check that Torres is on probation for burglary tools and other crimes. He also had burglary tools and drug related items on him.

These two arrests come after Monday’s arrest of a Santa Cruz prowler.
