Seaside Councilwoman makes sexual harassment claims against fellow council members

Seaside City Councilwoman Kayla Jones is asking for an independent investigator following allegations of sexual harassment she made against her fellow council members.

Jones has served as a council member for almost two years and says in that time she has received inappropriate comments regarding her hair, make-up and overall appearance.

She says this treatment happens behind closed doors and in public session.

In a post on her Facebook page she says “I also called attention to the fact that over the past two years I have listened to my colleagues on the council as they shared their varying viewpoints and then when it is my turn to speak, I am often met with comments that in summation say that I have cute ideas or that I just simply don’t understand.”

Her allegations came to light in the last Seaside City Council meeting on September 6th and after she spoke about her concerns, council members began addressing a different topic.

Jones says it’s crucial women speak up about double standards in the workplace.

“If we don’t speak up and say something about it, the old boy’s club will continue with their distasteful and outdated habits,” she continued.

She said in the previous council meeting she had addressed it with the city manager and another colleague but her frustration has grown.

“If anyone would like written documentation in which these things have occurred, I will happily provide them,” Jones says. “But I’m putting it out there because this is ridiculous and I’m not going to deal with it anymore.”

Jones’ request for an independent investigation is expected to be heard at the next Seaside City Council meeting on the September 20th.

That meeting starts at 7pm.

We have reached out to other council members for their reaction and await their response.
