Fatal motorcycle accident on Highway 1 near Molera Road
UPDATE 8/6/18 11:52 a.m. An SUV was making a left turn on Highway 1 and the 56-year-old motorcyclist hit the back of it.
The SUV was going westbound on the highway and slowed down to turn left.
The man on the motorcycle tried to pass on the left of the SUV, but when it started turning left, the motorcyclist went right to avoid it.
The motorcycle hit the back right end of the SUV, and the rider died as a result of his injuries. The identity of the rider has not been released.
Noemi Sanchez of Salinas was driving the SUV and Jose Escobar was a passenger. There were also four children between the ages of 3 months and 7 years old in the SUV.
Nobody in the SUV was injured or arrested.
The CHP does not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
Sunday CHP told KION that the speed of the motorcycle was a factor.
UPDATE 8/5/18 7:24 p.m. CHP confirms that a 56-year-old man from San Jose died in the Sunday afternoon crash near Molera Road.
Officials say an SUV carrying two adults and five children missed its exit on Highway 1.
While making a legal U-turn, a motorcyclist clipped the back.
The man on the motorcycle was speeding at the time and was part of a group of riders.
He tried to correct, but did not have enough time due to his speed.
He was wearing a helmet at the time.
The motorcyclist died on the scene, but nobody in the SUV was injured.
PREVIOUS STORY: At least one person is dead after a crash on Molera Road near Highway 1 Sunday afternoon.
It was reported to California Highway Patrol around 1:30 p.m.
The crash involved a motorcycle and a GMC truck.
The victim received CPR at the scene, but was pronounced dead.
There are currently no road closures.
