Mail thieves arrested in Scotts Valley

The Scotts Valley Police Department busted two mail thieves thanks to an alert citizen.

A resident near Granite Creek and Apple Valley reported a suspicious car moving slowly in the area.

Officers responded and found the car parked in the middle of the street with Justin Broughton and Dacion Celaya inside.

Both men were in possession of mail and financial information for various homes in the neighborhood as well as prescription pills and heroin.

“One of the subjects had an arrest warrant out of county and was on probation for piror possesion of stolen property,” said SVPD.

Both Broughton and Celaya were arrested and booked into Santa Cruz County Jail on mail theft/tampering and conspiracy as well as various narcotics related charges.

“The investigation is ongoing as we attempt to locate and identify all the potential victims of mail theft.”
