Grenade scare at Seaside Police Department prompts shelter in place
A shelter in place was issued at the Seaside Police Department following a bomb scare Friday.
According to Seaside police, a woman walked into the department and said she found an old grenade at her home and that it was sitting in her car.
“The citizen had a departed relative that was retired from the Military,” said Commander Nick Borges.
Officers walked out to the woman’s car and realized the grenade was real.
A shelter in place was issued for the police station and surrounding areas.
The Monterey County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad responded and determined the grenade was authentic but no longer operable.
