Caught on Camera: Falling dog injures woman

A dog falling from the roof of a two-story building struck a woman on the head, leaving her with a serious neck injury in an unprecedented incident in Guangzhou City, capital of south China’s Guangdong Province, earlier this month.

The incident happened at around 1:00 pm on April 15th on a street in the city’s Baiyun District. Two women had been minding their own business as they walked toward a local clinic, when one of them was suddenly hit by the large dog which flew down from above with no warning. She passed out immediately.

Local witnesses described how they heard a loud sound and saw an animal falling to the ground before tending to the injured lady. The animal weighed at least 44 lbs, according to witnesses.

“It was very loud, like a bag of cement falling down. I was holding her like this, and I saw that her lips suddenly turned black. So I brought a paper board and put her head on it and the doctor next door rubbed the area below her nose with some herbal oil,” said a local woman who witnessed the incident.

“She had totally blacked out. About a dozen minutes after applying [the herbal oil], she finally blinked and her lips moved. She finally began to become a little more conscious,” said another local.

Some neighbors quickly called an ambulance and the women was sent to hospital, but the dog had already fled from the scene.

“The dog ran off at once. It was fine, because its fall was buffered by the person,” said a witness.

As for where the canine in question has gone, locals said it has seemingly stayed away from the area.

“I often saw it (that dog) before, but these days, I haven’t seen it any more since the accident,” said a witness. The second floor of the building is used as a factory for electric units. Workers said that they have never kept any dog there and believe it may have entered the factory via another passage. The dog seemingly jumped off the roof of the building after being unable to find its way out. “It’s such a rare thing. You’ve never heard of a dog jumping off a building, have you? Let alone a dog jumping off a building and hitting a person!” said a worker from the factory. The woman is still recovering in hospital, with doctors saying that the second, third and fourth bones of her cervical vertebrae have suffered a comminuted fracture. Police have already started to investigate the incident.
