Car flips after hitting fire hydrant in Santa Cruz..
UPDATE 04/08/11 5:15PM: The driver of the car that struck a fire hydrant and landed on a power pole in Santa Cruz is suspected of being under the influence.
Santa Cruz police say he was sited for DUI. There were no injuries.
The Fire Department says the responded to the 300 block of Soquel Avenue around 6:52 a.m. finding a vehicle “on it’s end” against the power pole with a “sheared off” hydrant nearby.
It happened right outside of Riverside Lighting where employees say they had to shut down business because power was shut off. They say while they are glad no one was hurt, they did lose revenue for the day.
The road was closed, then re-opened to two lanes, as crews continued to repair the power pole into Saturday night.

The Santa Cruz Fire Department says they responded to the 300 block of Soquel Avenue at around 6:52 a.m., finding a vehicle “on its end” against the power pole, with a “sheared off” hydrant nearby.
One person was found trapped inside the car, and was freed after a ten minute extraction effort.
Santa Cruz Fire Department Battalion Chief, Josh Coleman, tells KION that power was lost to nearby buildings. PG&E isolated power to the surrounding area to remove the vehicle from the sidewalk and power pole.
The road was closed, then re-opened to two lanes, as crews continued to repair the power pole into Saturday night.
It is not yet known if weather was the cause of the crash, but officials say it was raining heavily at the time.
