A Salinas City Council member had residents over to his house Friday to talk about local issues. The guest of honor, assembly member Anna Caballero.
Councilman Steve McShane hosted Friday’s gathering, as Caballero is running for state senate.
Though it drew a diverse group of people, Caballero says the concerns are similar across the Central Coast.
“This is as accessible as it gets for neighbors,” McShane said.
The Salinas city councilman, welcomed community members to share their concerns and issues with assembly member and senate candidate Anna Caballero.
Those who showed up, had no issue speaking their mind.
“Where is it that you will pay people who can live on the economy and actually live in a decent home?” one person asked Caballero.
“Some of the improvements I want to see are the roads because you notice that the roads are being worn out,” another said.
Those were just some of the concerns, traffic issues and improvements to downtown Salinas were also discussed.
Concerns Caballero says are echoed up and down the Central Coast.
“It’s amazing what similarities there are whether you’re in Soledad, Salinas, Merced, Madera, the issues tend to be very, very similar,” Caballero said.
But she says the community coming together like this helps lawmakers focus their efforts.
“We’re going to get to some solutions,” Caballero said, “It takes time, you can’t solve them overnight.”
McShane says a similar open house is planned for May 18th.
