Salinas man involved in double fatal accident east of Paso Robles
KEYT– Two people are confirmed dead following a major wreck east of Paso Robles.
The fatal accident occurred in San Luis Obispo County at the Cholame “Y” where Highway 46 and 41 meet.
Five vehicles were involved in the crash that happened just before 6 a.m. Friday. One of the drivers involved was a 40-year-old Salinas man.
“It appears we had a 60-year-old female from Paso Robles that was driving eastbound 46 and driving her Chevy Cruze when for unknown reasons it appears she drifted in to the westbound lane where she side swiped a Nissan Versa that was being driven by a 40-year-old male from Salinas,” said officer Pat Seebart, Templeton CHP.
The Paso Robles woman also struck a Toyota Sienna mini-van head on. The driver of the mini-van was identified as a 45-year-old Tulare man. Both he and the Paso Robles woman died in the Friday morning crash.
The Cholame Y is notorious for car accidents and is where actor James Dean was killed.
Just 2 weeks ago Assembly member Jordan Cunningham announced Cal Trans will build a new grade separated interchange at that spot.
