Passengers stuck on train for hours after colliding with tractor in Salinas
UPDATE: The driver of the truck that was hit by the train has been identified as Hector Garnica.
The CHP says he was already in the crossing when he spotted the train and decided to continue forward. One of the flatbed trailers he was towing was hit by the train.
He was not hurt, but 300 to 400 gallons of fuel was spilled.
ORIGINAL: An Amtrak train was stuck sitting on the tracks for more than eight hours overnight just south of Salinas.
The delay came after the train collided with a tractor trailer around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Passengers were stuck on the train for well over ten hours.
The train was making its way north to Seattle.
According to Amtrak, the train was more than 9 hours behind schedule.
KION spoke to the father of one of the passengers on the train. His daughter told him that the dining car was running out of food around 12:30 a.m.
A hazmat team responded because the train was leaking fuel.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.
