Salinas Church will take sermon to the streets on Good Friday
Today is a big day for two of the world’s major religions. Millions of Jews will gather tonight for the beginning of Passover, which commemorates the liberation of the Israelites from Egyptian slavery.
Meanwhile, Christians all over the world will be observing Good Friday. One Salinas church will be taking todays sermon to the streets.
“We are going to carry the cross out of the sanctuary onto the street,” said Pastor Steve Lundin.
A 11-foot wooden cross will be carried by a parishioner, while Pastor Steve holds a shortened version of the Stations of the Cross around town. That’s the story of the trial, torture and crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Pastor Steve says he will draw parallels between then and now.
“This story is not just a stained-glass religious story. It’s a story of real life. Gritty and messy. Just as we have it today,” said Lundin.
Anyone is invited to attend. They will leave from the First United Methodist Church on Lincoln Street at 12:00 p.m Friday. Christians mark the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter.
