Do you know your rental rights? Meeting set for Thursday in Salinas
It’s tough enough renting on the Central Coast with the high price of rent, however knowing your rights can make it a little easier.
“There is always discrimination on both sides, whether you’re a landlord or a tenant,” said Councilmember Tony Barrera.
The community meeting Thursday is free and open to both groups. It’s all about getting the conversation flowing between landlord and renter and knowing your rights. Salinas City Councilmember Tony Barrera said undocumented immigrants are among some of the most vulnerable when it come to illegal housing practices.
“Because we have a certain percentage of undocumented folks they are always intimidated to ask for their rights as far as housing. Maybe they fear they will get evicted or their rent will go up,” said Councilmember Barrera.
All time high rent is not only a problem in Salinas, but all over the California, so there will be housing experts on hand.Also, legal help will be there to hear concerns you may have.
