Anna Caballero named ‘2017 Legislator of the Year’
The first female Mayor of Salinas and current Assemblymember Anna Caballero is being honored Wednesday morning as the ‘2017 Legislator of the Year’ by the California Special District Association.
“She’ll go to the other side of the isle in order to compromise,” said Past President of the California Special District Association, Vince Ferrante.
The California Special Districts Association represents local agencies that deliver water, fire protection, waste management and other services throughout the state. This award, which will be given in the Medical Museum at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital, is for those who not only succeed at the state level but more importantly, make an impact at the local level in these special districts.
“She’s been an advocate for the underserved here in Salinas, the gang task force, she has served in many capacities trying to serve and unite the community together,” said Ferrante.
“Last year she introduced a climate change bill that will help special districts fulfill a lot of the state mandates that will be coming down the pipes to get them up to speed. She also had legislation passed that helps mosquito infector control districts do their jobs and cut some of the red tape,” said Public Affairs Field Coordinator, Chris Palmer
Organizers of today’s event say that immigration and providing services for immigrants are also among Caballero’s top priorities.
