At least 4 Central Coast residents killed in weekend crashes

It was a deadly weekend on the roads. At least four Central Coast residents were killed in traffic accidents.

Sunday night, a 27-year-old man drove off the road and hit a tree and a cement wall on Harden Parkway near North Main Street in Salinas. The accident happened around 9:48 p.m.

The driver was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. Investigators discovered the driver may have been speeding and after passing several cars, he veered off the road.

Salinas PD said other vehicles were involved but no one else was hurt. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

In the Santa Cruz Mountains a 60-year-old Boulder Creek woman was struck and killed on SR-236.

The accident happened east of Kings Highway, Sunday morning around 9:20 a.m.

The California Highway Patrol said the driver of a green Subaru was traveling eastbound when he crossed over “solid white fog” and struck the pedestrian. The woman, identified as Marsha Nord, was found several feet from where the collision occurred.

The driver attempted to pull Nord off the roadway. When EMS found her, she was not breathing and was declared dead at the scene.

The cause of this crash is still under investigation. The driver, a 24-year-old Boulder Creek man cooperated with investigators but was arrested after it was determined he had been driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage.
