Morgan Hill Police bust burglary suspects, seize stolen car & $3,000 worth of stolen items

Instead of sleeping off a Thanksgiving meal, two suspected burglars were out in a Morgan Hill neighborhood.

According to Morgan Hill Police, officers responded to a call about a suspicious car with no plates on Brega Lane, around 4 a.m. Friday (Nov.24). A witness told police they saw a woman wearing all black looking into cars and houses. While officers were on their way, another caller said they watched someone break into a neighbor’s garage.

Officers found the vehicle on E. Dunne Avenue. As soon as police turned on their emergency lights and siren the suspect car took off. Officers chased the suspects on northbound Highway 101 into San Jose and were able to arrest 49-year-old Claudia Chavez, and 44-year-old Norman Bautista, both from San Jose.

Officers determined the suspect’s car was stolen and was filled with stolen property. The victim was able to get back all of their stolen property worth about $3,000.

Both suspects were booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of burglary, vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, and an additional charge of evading police with reckless driving.
